Eduard Marais and his brother became blind at a young age so they had to attend the Institute of the blind in Worcestor. In 1945 he got the opportunity to start Paarl Basket company and imported cane from the East. He passed away in 1974.
His son JP Marais took over the business in 1978. He's main focus was to manufacture baskets for the farms and fishing industries. On a later stage he started to supply baskets more as a decorative item to retailers.
In 2017 Caren joined the company after her father suffered a stroke. She always had a big passion for interior design, art, photography and the drive to succeed. She had her own business and career in the wine industry but decided to put that passion aside for the family business.
Adam joined the business at a young age. He's in the main production to create these beautiful baskets. He inherited the skills from his father who worked for the family for many years.
Clifton is the new addition to our team. He joined us in 2018. He focus mainly on our new range and learn all the skills from Adam. Together we create new things.
Seun the son of Adam joined our company in 2020. he's definitely following in his fathers footsteps and learning the technique quickly and crafting with the team
